Localities said they heard gunshots and saw the events unfold. Shannon Nichole, an eyewitness, who was traveling at the time, told KFGO Radio, “I saw the traffic stop, and as soon as I drove past, shots were fired, and I saw the police officers get injured.” My airbag went off, and a bullet pierced my driver’s door.”

Peterson’s first inclination was to pull over and aid, but because her daughter was present, they chose to leave the area. “It’s strange to think that if we were just 10 seconds earlier, we could have been caught in that,” she said.
